All Torrey Pines Scientific laboratory hot plates are made with a cast aluminum chassis that is painted with chemically resistant epoxy paint. Their controls are well forward of the heater surface to prevent accidental burns. To keep heat from the edge of the heater plate, the ceramic plates are mounted in a cast aluminum frame.

The ceramic glass heater tops are made from sheet glass cut to size and are white, very flat, very resistant to chemical spills and clean easily. Ceramic glass tops heat and cool very quickly. They pass energy quickly through the glass into the sample, making them ideal for heating a solution in a vessel.

The cast aluminum heater tops are made from an alloy which allows for minimum pitting when milled. They are very flat and, compared to the ceramic glass tops, provide an even heating across the surface. This makes them ideal for heating a solid directly on the plate surface. Aluminum heater tops cool more slowly and are not very tolerant against aggressive chemicals.
